Rwanda offers new tourism incentives

Rwanda offers new tourism incentives : Rwanda has offered the public and all tourists both local and international new tourism incentives to help boast the tourism sector during this COVID-19 recovery period; in a letter released to all stakeholders the Rwanda development board stated that “in view to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic it had reviewed the current tourism incentives and booking regulations to support the industry’s recovery.”

It’s on that basis the board has now issued new incentives and booking regulations to start effective 31st May 2021 to 31st December 2022; the incentives and regulations are as follows:-

  1. Any tourist who wishes to postpone their mountain gorilla trekking permit due to a covid-19 related issue will now be able to do so at no extra cost. These will include all permits – package permits, MICE incentive permits and low season permits.
  2. Any tourist postponing their mountain gorilla trekking permit due to covid-19 related issues will be able to so under the new incentives for a period running from May 31st 2021 to December 31st
  3. All the mentioned modifications in 1 and 2 can be done up to two times as long as it’s within the mentioned period.

Even with this new incentives and booking regulations, it’s important to note that:-

  1. Postponing of permits, rescheduling and cancelling at no extra cost will apply to only COVID-19 related issues and thus will not apply to anything else.
  2. The different respective charges for postponing, rescheduling and cancelling permits will apply to any tourist who wishes to do so without a COVID-19 related issue.
  3. The 30-day full payment policy before the traveller treks the gorillas will remain for new bookings and reschedules due to COVID-19 related issues.
  4. The 30 days will be calculated based on the new existing dates.
  5. All confirmations for reschedules and new bookings will be subject to the available permits and trekking dates.

On top of the new incentives Rwanda development Board has also extended the existing promotional rates to December 2022. The promotional rates are as follows;-

  1. Mountain gorilla trekking permits for Rwanda Nationals and members of the East African community will cost USD 200.

  1. Mountain gorilla trekking permits for foreign residents will cost USD 500.
  2. Mountain gorilla trekking permits for African citizens will cost USD 500.
  3. A 10% discount on mountain gorilla trekking permits will be considered for organisations/corporates in a group of 30 people and more.
  4. A 15% discount on mountain gorilla trekking permits will be considered for Families for the couples and children above 15.
  5. International travellers in a group of 100 people or more will be considered for the USD 500 cost for the mountain gorilla trekking permits.
  6. Nationals and East African residents will have a 10% discount on other products and services in Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park when they are travelling on individual basis.
  7. Nationals and East African residents will have a 30% discount on other products and services in Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park when they are travelling in a group of 10 people or more
  8. Families of a couple and children will have a 15% discount on other products and services in Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park.
  9. Corporates/Organisations will have a 30% discount on other products and services in Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park for a group of 30 persons or more.

All these incentives will strictly apply for the period running from May 31st 2021 to December 31st 2021 and will be subject to the different terms and conditions stipulated by the Rwanda Development Board.
