Vaccinations for Travel: Uganda : When planning to travel, one of the common requirements is vaccination for one disease or the other depending on the disease’s public health importance to the given country and the world at large. And in this post Covid19 era, having vaccination has become a major requirement for travelers across the globe.

Most the countries you visit now require that you have a covid19 vaccination certificate before you are admitted into the country. Though this is not a compulsory requirement for all countries it’s one of the important vaccinations because of the public health importance of COVID19 in the whole world. The Covid19 outbreak claimed a lot of lives and affected many as well, that’s why it’s important to prevent the spread of the disease at all costs.

That said on top of the COVID19 vaccination, there are other vaccinations one may require to enter a country. In this article we share the vaccinations you need to enter Uganda.

In Uganda, a number of tropical and communicable diseases are prevalent and in most cases if you have not lived in Uganda at all or for long you are likely not resistant to these diseases.

That’s why you need to get vaccinated against them. The right vaccines can protect you against the diseases or the severe effects of the diseases incase you catch it.

So basically, though having a vaccination is a requirement its basically for your good to protect you and your health.

Below is a list of vaccinations you need to enter Uganda.

  1. Yellow Fever

We all know of the yellow fever outbreak that spread across the world and claimed many lives. It was deadly just like COVID19. And though the outbreak was contained then and the disease subsequently abated, it’s still important to keep you and the citizens of the country safe from any infections related to the disease.

It’s for that reason that for anyone travelling to Uganda it is required to have been vaccinated against yellow fever. This is a mandatory requirement, so not having this vaccine can actually affect your chances of admission into the country. At any point of entry, you use you will be required to present your vaccination certificate and if you are not vaccinated, you will be required to get vaccinated at the point. If you object to the vaccination you are likely to be denied entry.

  1. COVID19

The COVID19 vaccination is a new requirement for Uganda. It was introduced after the COVID19 pandemic. As of 2022, anyone vaccinated against COVID19 is granted access to Uganda without restrictions. Those who are not vaccinated are required to present negative PCR test results at the point entry.

Thus the COVID19 test is not mandatory, however if you don’t have it, you have to be able to present negative PCR test results, Vaccinations for Travel: Uganda.

  1. Other Diseases

These diseases are prevalent in the country and have vaccines available; so you can get vaccinated against them on a personal basis or if you have a medical condition requiring you to do so.

However you should know that you don’t necessarily require you to have vaccination for them to enter Uganda.

If in any case the country requires mandatory vaccinations it’s under peculiar circumstances. The country’s ministry of health will communicate to the public in such situations. These diseases include but are not limited to;-

  • DTP
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Malaria
  • Meningococcal
  • MMR
  • Rabies
  • Schistosomiasis
  • Tuberculosis
  • Ziika virus
