Detailed Safari Itinerary

DAY 1: Kigali City Tour

Kigali City Tour: On day 1 of the 14 Days Rwanda Safari Tour, you will be up early, have breakfast and the guide will pick you up from your accommodation at 8 am to go visit various sites of the city. This day you will visit the Kigali memorial centre, the National History Museum, the reconciliation village in Bugesera and genocide churches in Ntarama and Nyamata. This will be a whole day of touring the city so you will have a lunch break within the tour. The tour will end at 5 pm and the guide will drop you at your accommodation for dinner and night rest.

DAY 2: Transfer to Butare

Transfer to Butare: You will be up early, have breakfast, and check out of your accommodation and then head south of Kigali to Butare. In Butare, you will visit the National Museum, Art centres and the King’s palace in Nyanza. This is a whole day experience, so you will have a lunch break in between and after the whole experience, you will proceed to Nyungwe National Park. You will arrive in Nyungwe in the evening, check into your accommodation; have dinner and then a night rest.

DAY 3: Chimpanzee trekking & Canopy Walk

Chimpanzee trekking: You will be up early, have breakfast and then head to the park reception for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. The briefing may take up to 30 mins and after the briefing, you will then head into the forest for you chimpanzee trekking experience where you will find the chimpanzees and spend an hour with them before you head out of the forest. The entire experience will take about 4 to 5 hours and after you will head back to your accommodation for some leisure time and lunch.

Canopy Walk: After lunch, you will go for a canopy walk above the great Nyungwe forest where you will enjoy the beautiful views of the region and the forest including sighting the different animals that live in the forest. The walk will take up to 2 hours and after you will head to your accommodation for an afternoon at leisure, later dinner and night rest.

DAY 4: Nyungwe Forest Nature Walk

Nyungwe Forest Nature Walk: Your fourth day on the 14 Days Rwanda Safari Tour will start early with breakfast at your accommodation head out to the forest for a whole day forest nature walk where you go through the different trails of the forest seeing numerous bird species, butterfly species, orchids, and tree species ending at the Kamiranzovu waterfall trail. Because this is a whole day activity you need to carry a snack and water for the walk, you will be done by late afternoon and then you will head back to your accommodation for a late lunch and the rest of the day at leisure, later dinner and night rest.

DAY 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Transfer to Lake Kivu: You will be up not so early considering you had a long walk into the forest yesterday; you will have a morning at leisure and later have lunch at your accommodation after checking out. After lunch, you will set out for your journey to Lake Kivu where you will arrive in the evening check into your accommodation, have dinner and night rest.

DAY 6: Boat Cruise & Market Experience

Boat Cruise: Get up for your breakfast at your accommodation and after head to the lake for a boat cruise to explore the several islands on the lake as you see the numerous water birds and the scenic water views. After the boat cruise, you will head back to your accommodation for lunch as you enjoy the lake breeze and view. Then later you will visit the local markets to experience the local trading lifestyle of the locals in the areas. After your market experience, you will head back to your accommodation for dinner and night rest.

DAY 7: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Iby’iwacu Cultural Experience

Transfer to Volcanoes: You will get up early have breakfast and then check out of your accommodation before you embark on your journey to Volcanoes National Park. The drive to volcanoes national park is between 2 to 3 hours, so you will be in the park in the midmorning check into your accommodation, relax and later have lunch at your accommodation.
Rwanda Cultural Experience: After lunch, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu village for Rwandan cultural experience with dances, songs and stories about the culture; this will go on till the evening and after you will retire at your accommodation have dinner and night rest.

DAY 8: Gorilla Trekking & Buhanga Eco Park

Gorilla Trekking: You will be up pretty early, have breakfast and then head to the park offices at 7 am for trekking briefing before you head into the forest for your gorilla trekking experience. You will spend one hour with the gorillas in the forest and then head out the forest; the entire experience will last between 4 to 5 hours and then you will head back to your accommodation for lunch and chill from the trek.
Visit Buhanga Eco Park: After lunch, you will visit the buhanga eco-park to see learn more about the Rwandan kings’ initiation traditions. After your walk you will head back to your accommodation, have the rest of the afternoon at leisure, later dinner and a night rest.

DAY 9: Golden Monkey Trekking

Golden Monkey Trekking: You will be up early, have breakfast and then head to the park offices for a briefing before you head into the forest for your golden monkey trekking in the forest. the golden monkey trekking experience will last about 3 to 4 hours and then you will be out of the forest, head back to your accommodation for the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and a night rest will be at your accommodation.

DAY 10: Dian Fossey

Dian Fossey: On Day 10 of the 14 Days Rwanda Safari Tour, you will be up early, have breakfast and then head to park offices where you will be transported to the Dian Fossey starting point. the drive to the starting point is about 40 mins and when you get to the starting point you will then walk on the trail to the Dian Fossey grave, have a tour at the Dian Fossey centre which will take most of your day. After your tour, you will back to your accommodation for a late lunch and have the rest of the afternoon at leisure, later dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 11: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Transfer to Akagera: On day 11 of the 14 Days Rwanda Safari Tour, you will get up at leisure, have breakfast at your accommodation and then check out to head east of the country to Akagera National Park, the only wildlife park in the country. You will be in the park in the afternoon, check into your accommodation and have lunch.
Nature Walk: After lunch you go for a nature walk in the park, to appreciate the unique beauty and ambience of the park as you sight a few birds and animals. After your nature walk, you will retire to your accommodation for a dinner and a night rest.

DAY 12: Full Day Game Drive

Full-Day Game Drive: You will be up pretty early, have breakfast and then head out for your game drive experience that will take you to the different parts of the park through the day to see several wild animals including lions, leopards, impalas, warthogs, antelopes and many more. Because it’s a whole day game drive you will have a lunch break in the middle of the drive and then resume the drive till about 4 or 5 pm. When the game drive is done you will head to your accommodation to chill, later have dinner and a night’s rest.

DAY 13: Birding & Boat Cruise

Birding: You will be up early, have breakfast, and then head out into the park for the unforgettable birding experience that will allow you see a range of bird species that live in the park as they go around their day to day business, playing and making joyful noises.
Boat Cruise Experience: You will have lunch at your accommodation after the birding experience and after lunch, you will head to Lake Ihema for a refreshing boat cruise that will allow you to see different water animals and birds. After the boat cruise, you will head back to your accommodation, later have dinner and a night’s rest.

DAY 14: Transfer to Kigali

Transfer to Kigali: On the final day of the 14 Days Rwanda Safari Tour, you will be up at leisure, have breakfast, and check out of the accommodation and then head back to Kigali city. You will arrive in Kigali city in the mid-morning or early afternoon and the guide will drop you at a location of your choice in Kigali.
