Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale forest national park
Depending on your location in Entebbe, meet your safari driver at 7:00 am and embark on your drive to Kibale national park – the best safari destinations in Africa for chimpanzee tracking. Arrive early afternoon for lunch in Fort portal town, then proceed to your lodge for check-in and spend your afternoon/evening relaxing at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Turaco Treetops – Cottages
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi Swamp (Optional)
Wake up early and drive to Kibale Forest to the briefing point before you head in the forest in search of the exuberant chimpanzees groups in the Kibale forest. Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor, is a thrilling experience. Though they can be difficult to spot, you will be in no doubt of their presence as the forest is alive with their noisy calls. Spend an hour in their presence.
After trekking, return to relax at the lodge or do an optional visit of the Bigodi swamp – one of the richest swamps with birds and primates like Baboons, redtailed monkey, Black and white monkey among others. Diner and overnight at lodge as above
Day 3: Chimpanzee habituation experience
Have breakfast very early and later transfer to the park head office for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees and later enter the forest with the guidance of a park ranger along with your tracking gears, packed water and snacks. This trekking is a whole day experience. On finding the primates, you will spend 4 hour viewing them while studying their behaviour and taking pictures. After tracking, return to the lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight at as above
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park (Rushaga sector)
After breakfast, check-out of the lodge and embark on your drive to Bwindi impenetrable national park, which is about 6-7 hours’ drive with en-route lunch. Upon arrival early afternoon, connect to your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Four Gorilla Lodge
Day 5: Gorilla habituation experience
Enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing by the ranger guides and later head into the forest for your trek. Gorilla habituation in Bwindi involves visiting a semi-habituated gorilla family that is under the process of habituation. This activity takes a whole day and you are granted 4 hours to stay with the gorillas. After the habituation experience, meet your guide and drive back to your lodge to rest. Dinner and overnight at Lodge as above
Day 6: Gorilla trekking experience
Enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing by the ranger guides and later head into the forest for your trek. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. These primates roam the park freely and there is no way of telling where they will be for a particular day. On finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to view and take photos of these gentle primates, enjoy your lunch packs and meet your driver / guide. Transfer to Lake Mulehe safari Lodge. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast, check-out of the lodge at 10 am, transfer to Kigali. It’s about 4-5 hours’ drive and upon arrival Kigali late afternoon, connect to Kigali airport for your onward flight back home. Check-in 2 hours before your departure flight. Making the end of your safari with us.
