3 Days Kidepo Valley National Park Flying Safari

Our 3 days Kidepo Valley National Park safari trip leads you to unmatched wilderness in the northeastern Uganda region. It can easily be accessed through flying and involves a combination of early morning and evening game drives, cultural encounters with the Karamojong people, and viewing wildlife such as lions, elephants and Ostriches before flying back to Entebbe or Kampala on day three. While the long drive from Kampala is an option, a flight-based trip is more realistic for a 3-day safari to maximize time for wildlife viewing and cultural experiences in one of Uganda’s most isolated areas.

What to consider?

Kidepo Valley National Park is an excellent safari destination due to its unmatched wilderness, which includes rugged landscapes and a wide population of wildlife, especially rare species like the Ostrich and cheetah that are not seen elsewhere in other Ugandan parks. It also offers unique cultural encounters with the local Karamojong and Ik people, alongside thrilling birdwatching opportunities.

The park sits on an area of about 1,442 square kilometers, comprised of savanna grassland, woodland, acacia bushes ‘’Narus Valley and Kidepo Valley.

Wildlife: Elephants, lions, leopards, African wild dog and buffaloes. Other notable species include cheetahs, giraffes, Rothschild’s’ ’Zebra, and various antelope species like Kudu and Oribi.

Kidepo is also home to unique predators like the bat-eared fox, caracal and aardwolf, as well as plenty of bird species over 500 species recorded.

The best time to visit Kidepo Valley National Park for game viewing is during the dry season, which lasts from September to March, with the peak months being December to February. From April to August, it is ideal for bird watching due to migratory birds and the lush, green landscape.

Location of Kidepo Valley National Park: It lies near Karenga in the Kaabong district in northeastern Uganda, approximately 12 hours by car. Best way to access the park is to fly over to Apoka Airstrip by a domestic flight ‘’Aero link Uganda’’ from Entebbe International Airport.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Fly from Entebbe to Kidepo Valley National Park

Start your 3-day Kidepo Valley National Park tour by pickup or, upon arrival, fly from Entebbe to Kidepo Valley National Park, followed by an afternoon or evening game drive. After a good relaxation and lunch at the lodge. During your game drive, you will be able to spot animals like lions, elephants and buffaloes, among others. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Cultural Experience

After a morning breakfast, go for a full-day game drive where you will explore the park’s various areas to spot animals such as giraffes, zebras and the rare ostriches.
