Birdwatching tours in Kidepo is can be done year-round, but March and April are best for local specials and the many migrants. December to February has the least rain, while the wettest months are April to August. That said, rain shouldn’t be too much of an obstacle to birding in this semi-arid part of the country. But the migratory birds can be spotted at valleys from November to April.

For bird watchers, the recommended time to visit the park for bird-watching activities is during the wet months from March and April.

How to get to Kidepo Valley National Park

By Road: Taking a road trip to Kidepo National Park is an exciting experience for anyone visiting Uganda. The journey is enjoyable because there’s so much to see along the way. The fastest and most common route is from Kampala through Gulu and Kitgum, covering about 571 kilometers. Keep in mind that your starting point will affect your travel distance, as the park can be reached from various locations based on your travel plans.

While driving, you can also visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for on-foot Rhino tracking and then proceed to the park; with this you need to have a stop in Gulu overnight to break the journey.

By Air; Flying Safari to Kidepo National Park is also available via charter and scheduled flights from Kajjansi and Entebbe International Airport, operators of this route include Aero Link Uganda and Fly Uganda among others. This however needs to be booked in advance given the fact the routing is mostly determined by the number of travelers aboard the flight with the minimum being 4 people.
