Double gorilla trekking experience; what you need to know. Mountain gorilla trekking is one of the most sought-after Safari activities in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In fact in all these 3 countries, tourists will come for only the 3-day trekking safari and not bother to have a savannah wildlife safari because seeing the gorillas in their habitat is far more rewarding than all other things combined; they say!

To take this a notch higher, some trekkers will choose not to do just one trekking experience but two sometimes three. You find people who will trek gorillas in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park and then more to Uganda’s Bwindi national park or mgahinga national park and if they want more, they will move to the democratic republic of Congo’s Virunga national park for another experience. Because to them seeing the gorillas is an experience like no other.

Sometimes people don’t even cross the country, they will have more than one trekking experience in Uganda’s Bwindi national park visiting different sectors on every trek.

They will visit buhoma, ruhijja, rushaga and nkuringo all at once instead of visiting just one.

Well, as exciting as this double mountain gorilla trekking or multiple gorilla trekking may be, it comes with its share of things you need to know ahead of time. And in this article, we share those things so that you can work on them ahead of time.

These include but are not limited to: –

Purchasing more than one mountain gorilla trekking permit. One trekking permit is usually for one trek per person, so if you are planning to Trek more than once you will need a new trekking permit for every trek. Which means you have to purchase multiple permits. And be keen to purchase the right permit for the specific treks.

You have to travel to all the different trekking places. So be mindful and plan for these movements between trekking destinations. And if you are moving out of the different countries have all your travel documents sorted for you to have a smooth transition from one park to another.

Physical fitness: seeing the gorillas is in the habitats is a no strain thing. You just stand there and enjoy their beauty and being; it’s not stramineous. But to get to the moment of looking and enjoying the gorillas it is gruesome. You Trek for about 3 or 6 hours just to get to the gorillas and believe me. If you are not physically fit you won’t manage to do that trek more than once. So, mind your physical fitness. Also have a good recovery plan after every trek, to keep your body fresh and ready to take on another challenge of trekking.

Always remember the rules of the trekking experience. Just because you are doing it more than once doesn’t take away the fact that there are rules to follow and you have to follow them all the time. These rules include but are not limited to: – not littering the gorilla habitat, staying in your trekking group during a trek, not touching the gorillas, not feeding the gorillas, not shouting at and in front of the gorillas, not doing anything that will endanger the gorillas among other things.

Apart from these things the rest of things are the same on a mountain gorilla trekking experience. And if you need more clarity and information, you can always consult with your tour operator, consultant or guide.
