9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari is a wildlife and hiking safari in the North East and Eastern part of Uganda. It’s designed to give you a lifetime experience of the wild and challenging but fun filled adventure as you conquer the Wagagai Peak on Mt Elgon.

Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Gulu district
Kidepo National Park is really far from Uganda’s capital Kampala so you will travel by road for over 10 hours to get the Park; this means to allow your body to not wear out you will travel to the park in two days. On the first day of your 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon safari you will travel from either Kampala or Entebbe to Gulu district where you will spend a night before you continue on your journey to Kidepo the next day.
This Day’s travel will be about 5 to 6 hours and you will arrive in Gulu in the evening, check into your accommodation, have dinner and a night rest.
This day you will have en route lunch.
Day 2: Travel to Kidepo National Park and Ike community
Day two of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up early have breakfast, check out of your accommodation and then embark on a journey to Kidepo National Park. You will be in Kidepo in the afternoon, check into your accommodation and have lunch.
After lunch you will go on to visit the Ike community to experience the unique traditions and lifestyle of these North Eastern people. After the visit to the Ike community you will head back to your accommodation for dinner and night rest.
Day 3: Morning and Evening Game drive in the park
Day three of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up very early have breakfast and then head out for a morning game drive to see several animals that live in the park that include but not limited to cheetahs, lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, caracal and many more. This game drive will end at around 12pm, and you will then go to your accommodation to relax and have lunch.
At round 3pm or 4pm you will again go out for an evening game drive that will end at bout 7pm; you will then head to your accommodation for dinner and a night rest.
Day 4: Transfer to Mbale
Day four of the 9 days Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up early have breakfast, check out of your accommodation and then head down east to Mbale. You will arrive in Mbale in the late afternoon, check into your accommodation; have dinner and a night rest. This day you will have en route lunch.
Day 5: Kapkwata – Piswa Camp
Day five of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up early have breakfast at your accommodation and after you will travel to the hiking starting point in Kapkwata, where you will start your hike for the day to the mountain top. On this first day of hiking you will have a pit stop at the Piswa Camp where you will rest for the day, have dinner and a night rest.
Day 6: Hunters Cave Camp
Day six of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up early have breakfast at Piswa Camp before you continue hiking to the top through wild flowers and some amazing hot springs. This second day of hiking will end at a pit stop at the hunters’ cave camp which is at the rim of the caldera. Here you will rest for the day, have dinner and a night rest
Day 7: Wagagai Peak
Day seven of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari, your will be up early have breakfast, then continue the hike up the mountain, this time all the way to the wagagai peak. This is at the top of the caldera, and it’s such a delightful place to be, you will have time to take pictures, videos and just enjoy the top. After you will start you descend down the mountain and on this day your descent will stop at Jackson trail, where you will rest for the night.
Day 8: Descending down the mountain
Day eight of the 9 days Safari, your will be up early have breakfast then continue down the mountain through the Sasa trail to Budadiri (Note this is not the same point you started at). At Budadiri you will connect with the tour guide and you will then head back to your accommodation in Mbale town. On this day you will have a late lunch spend the rest of the day at leisure and later dinner and a night rest.
Day 9: Transfer to Kampala
Day nine of the 9 days Safari, your will be up at leisure in the morning, have breakfast as you enjoy the breeze of the surrounding. You will then check out of your accommodation to embark on a journey to Kampala or Entebbe. You will stop in Jinja for lunch and then continue on your way, arriving in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening. The tour guide will drop you at a location of your choice either in Kampala or Entebbe. That will be the end of the 9 days Kidepo National Park and Mt Elgon Safari.
