3 Days Mount Nyiragongo is an amazing trip that will leave you mind blown as you ascend that volcanic mountain to the peak. This trip will enable you see the only active volcano in the world as we speak. Below is a detail of the days you will spend on mount nyiragongo.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Goma
You will be met by your driver guide at Kigali International Airport or at your agreed point of pick up in Kigali to start off your 3 days mount nyiragongo hiking tour. Depending on what time you arrive, you will go for a short city tour visiting the Genocide Memorial Centre and Kimironko market in Kigali. Have lunch then cross into Congo through Goma border and check in with the tourism office for your volcano permit that will permit you to hike the Nyiragongo. Dinner and overnight at Ihusi Hotel/ La Joie Plaza Hotel/ Lac Kivu Hotel.
Please note that your Rwanda Visa expires immediately you cross into Congo so it is advisable to re apply at the Congo Border and find it ready on your return.
Day 2: Nyiragongo Hike
After early morning breakfast, you will meet your driver guide to continue the 3 days mount nyiragongo trip who will drive you to your starting point at Kibati for your hike. You will have a briefing, meet your hike guide, porter and set off for your 5 hour hike up this volcanic mountain. Meals will be provided if you purchase the Mount Nyiragongo Backpack. The view from the top is rewarding and worth the hike.
You will spend a night in the summit shelters. Ensure to carry or hire a sleeping bag as these shelters have only a bed and mattress.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo
You will descend Nyiragongo to end your 3 days mount nyiragongo tour and reach Kibati at around 11am and connect with your driver guide to continue with your transfer back to Kigali via Goma border. You will reach Kigali in the afternoon or late evening and you will be dropped off at the airport or at your agreed point of drop off.
